Fall 2011 Schedule: We are practicing at
West High, lower Gym/Cafeteria Room
Tue and Thursdays 7-9 PM
Starting Sept 22, 2011
Ending June 7, 2012

NO PRACTICE Nov. 3, Dec 22, 2011 to Jan 9, 2012
Fees
Membership fees are $40 per month. We are a non profit organization. Instructors volunteer their time. All fees go toward renting our practice facility.
Joining
We welcome all people who are interested in practicing kendo to come by our dojo and join. Feel free to watch or start right away. Try to be early so that you can meet with the instructor. If practice has already begun when you arrive, please enter the dojo with your socks and shoes off and sit quietly to the side until an instructor comes over.
As a beginner you will be introduced to kendo etiquette and basic techniques. For about the first 2 or 3 months you will work on footwork, posture, and basic strikes among other things. After that, the instructors will determine if you are ready to start practicing in bogu.

Waiver:
Please download and sign the waiver and bring it to practice with you. If you are under 18 make sure a parent or legal guardian signs as well.

Clothing:
Please wear clothing that is comfortable to exercise in. A t-shirt and athletic pants or shorts will do fine. Make sure you do not wear pants that drag on the floor as this could cause you to slip and fall. A hakama and keikogi is not necessary for beginners.

Equipment:
Shinai (bamboo practice swords) will be available to borrow when starting out. After a few practices you are encouraged to purchase your own shinai. We do have some available for $35 or you can find them for purchase by online vendors. Our Links page provides a list of recommended vendors. We will show you how to maintain your shinai. This is very important for safety and longer use.
